How to sell XRP

- Choose how you want to be paid — bank transfer, debit card, or one of the other payout methods.
- Copy both the address and the destination tag from the payout screen. An XRP transfer without the tag arrives at a shared address with nothing to identify it as yours.

The destination tag is not optional
Exchanges and payment providers hold XRP for many customers in one ledger account, and the destination tag is the only thing that says which balance an incoming payment belongs to. Send XRP to a shared address without the tag and the ledger records a valid, confirmed transfer that no automated system can attribute — recovering it means a manual investigation, and on some platforms it is not recoverable at all. Copy the tag with the address every time, from the payout screen, and do not reuse one from a previous sale.
You cannot send your entire XRP balance
The XRP Ledger requires every account to hold a base reserve to stay open, and additional reserve for certain objects the account owns, such as trust lines. That reserved XRP is not spendable while the account exists. It catches people out when they try to sell down to zero and the transaction fails for insufficient funds even though the balance looks adequate. Sell the spendable portion; the reserve is released only if you delete the account, which is a separate and deliberate operation.
Settlement in seconds, and what that means for a sale
The XRP Ledger closes a ledger version every three to five seconds, and the standard transaction cost is 0.00001 XRP, destroyed rather than paid to anyone. There is no mining and no fee auction, so the cost does not spike with demand. For a seller this is the good case: once you send, the transfer is final almost immediately, and the wait is on the payout rail rather than the chain.
XRP, the XRP Ledger and Ripple are three different things
The XRP Ledger is an open network that has run since 2012. XRP is its native asset. Ripple is a private company that builds payment products using both and holds a large XRP position, much of it in escrow released on a schedule. They are frequently talked about as one thing, which matters when you are reading news that moves the price: an announcement about Ripple the company is not automatically an announcement about the ledger or the asset. The long-running US securities litigation against Ripple concerned how the company sold XRP, not the token's existence.
How long does it take to send XRP to us?
XRP settles on XRP Ledger, where a transfer typically confirms in 3–10 seconds. The XRP Ledger closes a new ledger every 3–5 seconds, and a validated transaction is immediately final — there are no confirmations to wait for. End-to-end, an XRP transfer lands in seconds; any longer wait is the receiving platform crediting, not the network. We start your payout once the transfer has confirmed on-chain, so this is the part of a sale you are usually waiting on.
What does it cost to send XRP?
That is a XRP Ledger network fee, paid to the network rather than to us: The standard cost is 0.00001 XRP burned per transaction — a fraction of a cent at any 2025–2026 price. See /fees-and-limits for what Anytime Capital charges.
Does sending XRP need a destination tag?
Yes. Exchanges and custodial services pool XRP in shared wallets and use a numeric destination tag to route your deposit to your account. Sending to an exchange without the tag is the #1 XRP support ticket — funds arrive at the platform but not in your account, and recovery requires a manual (sometimes fee-charging) support process. Sends to your own private wallet need no tag. Send XRP without it and the transfer can be credited to the wrong account or lost, so copy both the address and the destination tag from the payout screen.
What do XRP addresses look like?
Classic address: Starts with r (25–35 characters). Exchange deposits usually pair it with a destination tag Check the first and last characters against the address on the payout screen before you send — a XRP Ledger transfer cannot be reversed once it is confirmed.
