Leave enough ETH behind to move your other tokens
Every transaction on Ethereum is paid for in ETH, including transfers of tokens that are not ETH. If you sell your entire balance, the USDC, LINK or anything else in that wallet becomes unmovable until you fund it again — a wallet holding $10,000 of tokens and no ETH is a wallet you cannot transact from. Keep a small ETH balance back, or move the tokens you care about before you sell down to zero.
Staked ETH is not the same as ETH you can send
Ethereum has run on Proof of Stake since The Merge in September 2022, and ETH committed to a validator cannot simply be transferred. Getting it back means going through the exit process, which is queued: how long it takes depends on how many validators are leaving at the time. Liquid staking tokens are a different asset again — stETH, rETH and the rest are tokens that represent staked ETH, not ETH itself, and they have to be redeemed or swapped before there is ETH to send.
- Solo or pooled staking: request the exit, wait for the queue, then withdraw to your address
- Liquid staking tokens: redeem through the protocol, or swap to ETH on a decentralised exchange
- Exchange staking products: unstake inside that platform first — the balance shown is not on-chain ETH
ETH on Arbitrum, Optimism or Base has to come home first
Layer 2 balances are not interchangeable with mainnet ETH even though the ticker is identical, and sending from an L2 to a mainnet address is how funds get lost. Withdrawing from an optimistic rollup through its native bridge carries a challenge period of roughly a week; third-party bridges are faster and charge for the privilege. Whichever route you take, complete it before you start the sale, and send from the network named on the payout screen.
What actually moves the ETH price
ETH is unusual in that demand for the asset is tied to demand for the network's blockspace: heavy activity raises fees, and a portion of every fee has been burned since the 2021 fee-market change, so periods of congestion reduce supply. Set against that are staking issuance, flows through the US spot ETH exchange-traded products approved in 2024, and the migration of activity onto layer 2s, which is cheaper for users and burns less on mainnet. Check the live price on this page before you commit to a sale.
How long does it take to send ETH to us?
Ethereum settles on Ethereum, where a transfer typically confirms in 30 seconds – 5 minutes. Ethereum adds a block every 12 seconds, and most platforms credit ETH and ERC-20 deposits within 1–5 minutes. Full protocol finality — the point where the network mathematically cannot roll the transaction back — arrives in about 13 minutes (two epochs), which is why some custodians hold large deposits slightly longer. We start your payout once the transfer has confirmed on-chain, so this is the part of a sale you are usually waiting on.
What does it cost to send ETH?
That is a Ethereum network fee, paid to the network rather than to us: Usually under $1 for an ETH transfer and $0.50–$3 for an ERC-20 token transfer in 2025–2026, after the 2024 Dencun upgrade pushed activity to cheaper L2s; demand spikes still multiply that. See /fees-and-limits for what Anytime Capital charges.
What do ETH addresses look like?
Standard address: 0x + 40 hex characters. The same address holds ETH and every ERC-20 token (USDT, USDC, LINK, SHIB…) Check the first and last characters against the address on the payout screen before you send — a Ethereum transfer cannot be reversed once it is confirmed.
